Tonsils and Adenoids
These are collections of lymph tissue which are part of the bodies defence against infections. In health they help us but if they become diseased they may block the airway or cause recurrent sore throats with or without high fevers. Adenoids can also affect the ears, particularly in children.
If symptoms persist despite medical treatment, then surgery to remove the tonsil or adenoid is of enormous benefit to the sufferer. We can function normally without them, as witnessed by the many individuals who have been treated over the years.
Symptoms:
-
Sore throat with or without fever
-
Swollen tonsils
-
Difficulty swallowing
-
Enlarged neck glands under the jaw
-
Bad breath
Other conditions: Glandular fever – frequently presents as tonsillitis
Tonsil crypt, cysts / debris – may give a foul taste in the mouth
