Septoplasty
This is an operation to correct a mechanical deviation of the nasal septum. The nasal septum is the partition that divides the nose into left and right nostrils. It is made of cartilage at the front of the nose and bone further back. The operation involves making a cut on the inside of the nose. You will have no scars on the front of the nose and it is not a painful procedure.
Rhinoplasty
This is an operation to correct the shape of the nose. It is commonly called a "nose job". It may involve breaking the bones of the nose and resetting them. It may also involve surgery to the cartilaginous part of the nasal tip. There is discomfort involved with this type of operation but it is not severe and generally well controlled with gentle painkillers.
FESS
This is an abbreviation. The full title of this operation is Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery. It is functional because it aims to improve ventilation of the sinuses with surgery targeted specifically at the natural drainage holes. It is Endoscopic because it is performed using minimally invasive techniques. The endoscope, which is long and silver, is also used to examine the inside of the nose in the clinic. This is not a painful procedure.
Outfracture of inferior turbinates
This is an operation to improve the nasal airway. The turbinates are like radiators, except they are there to warm and humidify the air going into the nose. They can get too big, particularly in allergic patients, that they block the nasal airway. This is not a painful procedure.
There are various combinations of these procedures and they will be tailored to suit your individual requirements.
