Dizziness and Vertigo

There are many of causes of dizziness, which may have nothing to do with the balance organ in the inner ear. Light-headedness fainting, cardiovascular problems, thyroid problems and neurological problems can all produce feelings of giddiness and imbalance.

Vertigo, produces the feeling of either the environment moving in relation to you or that you are moving in relation to the environment. This is usually a spinning or rotatory sensation. Vertigo is specifically linked to problems with the inner ear. Vertigo can be successfully treated with 90% of people recovering with time.

Surgery may be advised if medical treatment proves ineffective and the episodes of vertigo are disabling, but this is rare.
